This was an extra work party, starting in the morning and continuing well into the afternoon in order to try and clear the floating pennywort from Willow Pond. This fast-growing invasive pondweed, a native of the Americas, has beome a serious problem in European ponds and slow moving rivers during the last few years. The photos show Ranger Mark (in the bobble hat) assisted by Tony and Weed pulling it out by hand and gathering it to the side (cold work in winter). Other members of the group carried it to Plotlands Way from where it was later collected by Basildon Countryside Services.
